Royal Decree 116/94 Amending the Labour Law

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of Royal Decree 26/75 Issuing the Law Governing the Administrative Apparatus of the State and its amendments,

and Royal Decree 34/73 Issuing the Labour Law and its amendments,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

A new article numbered 58bis is hereby added to the mentioned Labour Law with the following text:

Article 58bis

It is not permitted to waive or withhold the wages owed to the worker except within the limits of one-fourth, in order to fulfil a legal maintenance, a fixed debt to the government, or a debt to the employer within the limits set out in the previous article. In the case of concurrence, priority is given to the maintenance debt and then to the government debt.

Article II

All that is contrary to this decree, or in conflict with its provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article III

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its issuance.
