Royal Decree 104/2005 Establishing the Unified Admission Center

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96,

Royal Decree 65/98 Establishing the Higher Education Council,

and Royal Decree 6/2002 Determining the Mandates of the Ministry of Higher Education and Adopting Its Organisational Structure,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

A centre at the level of a directorate general named the “Unified Admission Centre” is hereby established in the Ministry of Higher Education. It is subordinate to the undersecretary of the ministry, and it must be—exclusively—mandated with regulating the admission of students holding the general certificate to higher education institutions in accordance with their wishes, their total grades, and the admission conditions determined by the mentioned institutions.

Article II

Some officers of the admission sections of government higher education institutions must be transferred to the Unified Admission Centre with their same grades and financial allocations, and they must be selected in coordination between the Ministry of Higher Education and these institutions.

Article III

The Minister of Higher Education shall issue the necessary regulations and decisions to govern the work of the centre, provided that the acceptance of applications begins from the academic year 2006/2007.

Article IV

All that is contrary to this decree, or in conflict with its provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article V

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its publication.
