Royal Decree 86/2011 Withdrawing Some Reservations of the Sultanate to the Convention on the Rights of the Child

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State promulgated by Royal Decree 101/96,

the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations by its resolution 44/25 at its forty-fourth session held on 5 December 1989,

and Royal Decree 54/96 Approving the Accession of the Sultanate to the Convention on the Rights of the Child,

and in pursuance of  public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The reservations of the Sultanate to the Convention on the Rights of the Child attached to the aforementioned Royal Decree 54/96 are hereby withdrawn, with the exception of the reservation to article 14 of the convention, which grants the child the right to choose his religion.

Article II

The competent entities shall take the necessary procedures to implement the provisions of the aforementioned article.

Article III

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.
