Statement of the Supreme Committee
The Supreme Committee is following with deep concern the escalating number of infected cases and fatalities of COVID-19 in the Sultanate in the past days, and hence, it expresses its profound discontent about the lack of commitment to the control and preventive measures established by the competent authorities to prevent its further spread in the community, which has contributed significantly to its transmission to their families, relatives, and colleagues in the workplace, in addition to the rest of society.
The Committee reaffirms the high-risk of this disease; as there is no vaccine or treatment available for its prevention so far, and due to its possibility to cause serious health complications, which in many cases, led to the death of people of all age groups.
Accordingly, the Committee wishes to draw the attention of all to the fact that the spread of the disease has put considerable burden on the healthcare system, particularly intensive care units, which affects the quality of services provided by this sector, both when dealing with COVID-19 infection or other diseases.
Within the efforts intended to halt furthering the spread of the pandemic e and to prevent more fatalities or adding extra burden on the healthcare system, and to assign all people to shoulder their responsibility, the Supreme Committee has decided to tighten the penalties against violators of the decisions issued by it, and stresses that it is proceeding to deal decisively with violators in various ways; for the common good, and this may include publishing the names and pictures of violators in various media.
Given its role to minimise the implications of the pandemic on the private sector, and on the financial viability of companies and institutions subject to tax, the Committee has decided to launch a package of measures to those companies and institutions, to be announced later by the Tax Authority.
