Royal Decree 65/89 Amending Some Articles of the Law of the Statute of Customs

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of Royal Decree 26/75 Issuing the Law Governing the Administrative Apparatus of the State and its amendments,

the Police Law 5/1973,

and Royal Decree 22/78 Issuing the Law of the Statute of Customs,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article 1

The attached amendments are hereby made to the mentioned Law of the Statute of Customs.

Article 2

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its publication.

Amending Some Articles of the Law of the Statute of Customs

Articles 51(c)(3), 90(2)(l), and 153(1) of the Law of the Statute of Customs are hereby amended to read as follows:

Article 51(c)(3)

The competent official may require the owner of bonded goods, upon their re-exportation, to provide proof that they have left the last customs port in the Sultanate on the specified date. If he is unable to provide such proof, the competent official may prohibit the owner from importing or exporting any other goods subject to the bond system for a period of three years from the date on which he was unable to provide proof.

Article 90(2)(l)

Unless the person claiming the refund of the prescribed fees levied on the re-exported goods submits a certificate issued by the last customs port in the Sultanate stating that the goods have been definitively exported, and on the date specified in this article.

Article 153(1)

Customs declarations must be written in Arabic. If any document required or authorised for the purposes of this law contains words in another language, the person submitting it shall, if requested to do so by the competent official, attach a correct translation in Arabic.
