We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman
based on the matters presented by the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and approved by the Council of Ministers,
have decided as follows
Article 1
The following amendments are hereby made to the Omani Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 34 of 1973:
Article 58, which reads: The employer shall not deduct more than 10% from the wage of the worker to fulfil any money he lends to him, and he shall not receive any interest from such money. The minister may amend the provisions of this article if the employer introduces or intends to introduce a loan system for the construction of housing for his workers that is approved by the ministry, or if the employer is a bank approved in the Sultanate.
Article 72, which reads: The employer shall grant each worker a weekly rest of no less than twenty-four consecutive hours. In order to benefit from the weekly rest pay for workers employed without a monthly salary, they must have worked for at least five consecutive days per week, unless their absence is for a legitimate reason. In places specified by a decision of the minister, it is permitted for the weekly rest periods of workers to be combined for a period not exceeding eight weeks if the workers and employers agree to this in writing.
