Royal Decree 30/88 Amending the Name of the Capital

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of Royal Decree 26/75 Issuing the Law Governing the Administrative Apparatus of the State and its amendments,

and desiring to preserve the historical significance of the name Muscat as a symbol of Omani heritage and civilisation,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The name “capital” is hereby changed to “Muscat” wherever it appears.

Article II

The name “Muscat” must have the same jurisdiction and boundaries as those prescribed for the capital.

Article III

The relevant ministries and entities, each within their fields of competence, shall undertake the necessary executive measures to implement this change.

Article IV

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its issuance.
