Royal Decree 60/93 Making Amendments to the Provisions Governing the Relationship Between Landlords and Tenants of Residences and Commercial and Industrial Premises and the Registration of Their Lease Contracts

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of Royal Decree 26/75 Issuing the Law Governing the Administrative Apparatus of the State and its amendments,

and Royal Decree 6/89 Regarding the Regulation of the Relationship Between Landlords and Tenants of Residences and Commercial and Industrial Premises and the Registration of Their Lease Contracts,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

Article 4 of the Provisions Governing the Relationship Between Landlords and Tenants of Residences and Commercial and Industrial Premises and the Registration of Their Lease Contracts issued by the mentioned Royal Decree 6/89 is hereby amended as follows:

Failure to register the tenancy agreement and pay the prescribed fees within a month from the date of its signing results in the invalidity of this contract before any official entity in the Sultanate, in addition to the payment of a fine equivalent to three times the prescribed fee calculated on the basis of the rent due for the delay period, after which the procedures for registering the tenancy agreement and paying the prescribed fees must be taken.

Article II

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its publication.
