Royal Decree 59/97 Amending the Civil Service Law and Its Executive Regulation

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96,

the Civil Service Law issued by Royal Decree 8/80 and its amendments,

and the Executive Regulation of the Civil Service Law issued by Royal Decree 52/84 and its amendments,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The attached amendments are hereby made to the provisions of the mentioned Civil Service Law and the Executive Regulation of the Civil Service Law.

Article II

All that is contrary to the attached amendments, or in conflict with their provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article III

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its issuance.

First
Amendments to the Civil Service Law

The text of article 24 of the mentioned Civil Service Law is hereby replaced with the following text:

Article 24

Taking into account the provisions of article 19 of this law, the competent authority for appointment or reappointment is as follows:

(a) Royal decree for appointment to the positions of the special grade of the general schedule.

(b) A decision by the competent minister after the approval of the Council of Ministers for appointment to the positions of the first grade of the first cycle of the general schedule.

(c) Head of the unit in the rest of the positions.

Second
Amendments to the Executive Regulation of the Civil Service Law

Article 15(c) of the Executive Regulation of the Civil Service Law is hereby replaced with the following text:

Article 15(c)

If the Council of Ministers approves the transfer, the competent minister shall issue a decision to that effect, in which the approval of the council must be indicated.
