Royal Decree 54/99 Amending Some Provisions of the Social Insurance Law

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96,

and the Social Insurance Law issued by Royal Decree 72/91 and its amendments,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The texts of articles 2(5), 8, and 9(1) of the mentioned Social Insurance Law are hereby replaced with the following texts:

Article 2(5)

Director general: The Director General of the Public Authority for Social Insurance.

Article 8

The management of the authority must be undertaken by a director general, whose appointment and determination of his allocations must be issued by a decision by the minister based on the proposal of the board of directors.

The director general of the authority shall be the rapporteur and secretary of the board of directors. In the absence of the director general, the minister shall select a person to replace him in the exercise of his mandates on a temporary basis.

Article 9(1)

The director general shall represent the authority in its relations with others and before the judiciary, and he shall, in particular, undertake the following:

Article II

The title “chief executive officer” wherever mentioned in the mentioned Social Insurance Law is hereby amended to “director general”.

Article III

All that is contrary to this decree, or in conflict with its provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article IV

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its publication.
