Royal Decree 45/2007 Granting the Khiran Region the Status of a Public Environmental Tourism Zone

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96,

the Tourism Law issued by Royal Decree 33/2002,

the Law on Environmental Protection and Pollution Control issued by Royal Decree 114/2001,

and Royal Decree 95/2005 Determining the Mandates of the Ministry of Tourism and Adopting Its Organisational Structure,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The Khiran Region is hereby deemed a zone designated for public environmental tourism purposes as specified in the attached masterplan.

Article II

The Ministry of Tourism shall undertake the management of the zone specified in the attached masterplan and the establishment of facilities in it, in accordance with environmental standards.

Article III

Citizens who own real estate in the zone specified in the attached masterplan are permitted to develop their real estate after the approval of the Ministry of Tourism, in a manner that does not change the nature of the zone.

Article IV

It is prohibited to establish any tourism, economic, or other projects in the zone specified in the attached masterplan.

Article V

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the day following the date of its publication.
