Royal Decree 44/2020 Approving the Accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance

We, Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State promulgated by Royal Decree 101/96,

and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance done in New York on 20 December 2006,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance is hereby approved in the form attached, subject to the following reservation:

First: The Sultanate of Oman declares that it does not recognise the competence of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances stipulated in article 33 of the aforementioned convention.

Second: The Sultanate of Oman declares that it is not bound by the provisions of paragraph 1 of article 42 of the aforementioned convention.

Article II

Competent bodies shall deposit the instrument of accession to the aforementioned convention in accordance with its provisions, subject to the aforementioned reservation.

Article III

This decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall come into force on the date of its issuance.
