Royal Decree 79/2026 Amending Some Provisions of the Basic Statute of the State

We, Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The phrase “Public Prosecution” [Al-Idi’aa Al-Am] is hereby replaced with the phrase “Public Prosecution” [Al-Niyaba Al-Ama] wherever it occurs in the Basic Statute of the State.

Article II

All that is contrary to this decree, or in conflict with its provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article III

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.

Translation Note: In the GCC, the terms Al-Idi’aa Al-Am and Al-Niyaba Al-Ama are both typically translated into English as Public Prosecution. However, the title of the figure in charge of Al-Idi’aa Al-Am is officially translated as the Public Prosecutor, while the head of Al-Niyaba Al-Ama is known as the Attorney General.
