Royal Decree 96/89 Amending Some Provisions of the Labour Law

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of Royal Decree 26/75 Issuing the Law Governing the Administrative Apparatus of the State and its amendments,

and Royal Decree 34/73 Issuing the Labour Law and its amendments,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The text of article 53 of the mentioned Labour Law is hereby replaced with the following text:

Article 53

The government may, if it deems it appropriate, set a minimum wage and review its determination whenever economic conditions so require. It may also set a minimum wage for a particular category of workers, for workers holding certain qualifications, or for workers occupying professions or jobs where the circumstances or nature of work require this determination.

The minimum wage must be determined by a decision issued by the minister after the approval of the Council of Ministers.

Article II

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force from the date of its publication.
