Statement of the Supreme Committee

The Supreme Committee concerned with the developments of COVID-19, held a meeting this morning in the headquarter of the ministry of Interior, headed by His Excellency Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, and in the presence of all its members, to follow up the developments of this pandemic, and to discuss the measures to prevent its spread.

– The Supreme Committee reviewed the preparations of the Sultan’s armed forces, the Royal Oman Police and other security agencies, to support the national effort to deal with this pandemic.

– In response to the benevolent national initiatives launched by many citizens, private institutions and civil society organizations to contribute to the national efforts to deal with this pandemic, and to consolidate the national efforts, it has been decided to open a bank account to receive financial donations under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and the details of which will be announced later.

– Due to the increase in the cases infected with Coronavirus (Covid 19) in several places in the Sultanate, it has been decided to activate the medical response, the public health and the relief and shelter sectors.

– The committee also decided to suspend all domestic and international flights to and from the Sultanate’s airports. starting at twelve noon on Sunday. March 29. 2020, with the exception of Musandam Governorate and air cargo flights.

– The committee also decided that the relevant authorities should arrange for the return, of those who wish to, of citizens abroad in general and students in particular and directed the authorities to arrange the institutional quarantine for them upon their return. It also stressed on using latest technical means to track the violators of the home quarantine to reduce the spread of the virus.

– Additionally. the committee instructed the relevant authorities to allocate special places to wash the dead bodies in all wilayats, and to deal with each body according to the risk infection requirements.

The Committee urges all members of society and institutions to adhere to the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (Covid 19), and warns of the risks of home gatherings in spreading the epidemic.

Statement of the Supreme Committee

Within the pursuit to curb the outbreak of COVID-19, the Supreme Committee concerned with following up the developments of this pandemic locally and globally made the following decisions which will take effect tomorrow, March 23rd, 2020:

– Reducing the number of employees present in government workplaces to no more than 30% of the total number of employees to complete the necessary work, while the rest start their work remotely as determined by the authority in which the employee works. Heads of the units must take the necessary measures to ensure that the core business is not affected by the downsizing of staff, and to take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

– Banning all kind of gatherings in public places, and taking appropriate measures against violators.

– Closing customer service halls in all public and private institutions, and using electronic services as possible.

– Closing all exchange units, provided that the banks shall provide the exchange services, while taking the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

– Stopping printing, distribution and sale of newspapers, magazines and other publications of all kinds, and preventing the sale and distribution of publications issued outside the Sultanate.

– The Committee urges the private sector to develop an appropriate mechanism for workers to work remotely, and to reduce employee gatherings at work. It also urges merchants, commercial institutions and individuals to limit dealing in cash, and to use electronic payment as an alternative due the fact that cash banknotes are a carrier of communicable diseases.

The Committee reiterates its call for everybody to strictly adhere to these decisions and recommendations for the public interest.

Statement of the Supreme Committee

The Supreme Committee for Dealing with Covid-19 took new decisions that will be effective from 12 pm Wednesday, March 18,2020. The decisions are:

– Restrict entry to the Sultanate through all ports (land, sea and air) with the exception of Omani citizens, and prevent Omanis from leaving the Sultanate.

– Closure of all mosques (small and large) with the exception of call to prayers.

– Closure of all non-MusIim places of worship. Suspension of all gatherings, events, and conferences in the Sultanate.

– Closure of all tourist sites and prevention of gatherings in public places, including beaches, hiking trails, wadis, mountains, sand dunes, waterfalls, and natural pools.

– Closure of all retail shops in commercial centers with the exception of food and commodities shops, clinics, pharmacies, and optical shops.

– Closure of traditional markets (souqs) such as Muttrah Souq, Nizwa Souq, Souq, and Sinaw Souq, as well as weekly markets such as Wednesday Market, Thursday Market, and Friday Market.

– Prohibition of serving food in restaurants and cafes (including those in hotels) with the exception of take-away orders.

– Closure of all sports and cultural clubs.

– Closure of health centers (gyms) and men’s barber shops and women’s beauty parlours.
