Royal Decree 117/2006 Forming a Ministerial Committee for Tourism

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State promulgated by Royal Decree 101/96,

and the Tourism Law promulgated by Royal Decree 33/2002,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

A ministerial committee for tourism is hereby formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of National Economy and Supervisor of the Ministry of Finance and the membership of the following:

The Minister of Tourism Deputy Chairman
The Inspector General of Police and Customs Member
The Minister of Commerce and Industry Member
The Minister of Housing, Electricity, and Water Member
The Minister of Transport and Communications Member
The Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment, and Water Resources Member

Article II

The committee is competent with the development of the tourism sector and for this purpose it may:

– Set the necessary policies to activate the tourism sector.

– Approve the necessary systems to stimulate tourism.

– Approve projects that contribute effectively to the development of the tourism sector.

– Set the necessary mechanisms to address the problems and overcome the obstacles facing the tourism sector.

Article III

The committee shall convene upon the invitation of its chairman whenever the need arises.

Article IV

This decree shall be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.
