Case Summary: Supreme Court (Commercial Circuit A) Contestation 281/2020 (Priority of Trademark Use and Transfer of Trademarks in Share Sales)

The Supreme Court held that the prior user of a trademark has the right to cancel a subsequent registration by another party within five years from that registration in accordance with the GCC Trademark Law. The court additionally affirmed that the sale of company shares inherently includes the transfer of intangible assets, such as trademarks, as part of the commercial store.

Royal Decree 22/2021 Approving the Petroleum Agreement Between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and Majan Energy LLC for Block 71

We, Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State,

the Oil and Gas Law promulgated by Royal Decree 8/2011,

and the petroleum agreement between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and Majan Energy LLC for Block 71 signed on 8 February 2021,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows 

Article I 

The aforementioned petroleum agreement is hereby approved.

Article II 

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.
