We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96,

and the Criminal Procedures Law issued by Royal Decree 97/99,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The texts of article 334 and article 335(2) of the mentioned Criminal Procedures Law are hereby replaced with the following texts:

Article 334

Rehabilitation must be by the operation of law after the completion of the execution of the principal and complementary punishment, the issuance of a pardon, or forfeiture by the lapse of the period, provided that five years have lapsed if the punishment is for a felony and three years if it is for a misdemeanour.

Article 335(2)

That two years have lapsed from the date of the completion of the execution or the issuance of the pardon if the punishment is for a felony and one year if it is for a misdemeanour. The periods are doubled in the cases of recidivism and forfeiture of the punishment by the lapse of the period.

Article II

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its publication.

and the Law Concerning the Employee System of the Diwan of Royal Court issued by Royal Decree 97/97,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

Sheikh Suleiman bin Hamad bin Suleiman Al-Harthy is hereby appointed Advisor for Planning and Organisation in Royal Court Affairs.

Article II

Ahmed bin Saif bin Mussalam Al-Rawahi is hereby appointed Head of Financial and Supply Affairs in Royal Court Affairs.

Article III

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.

Arabic We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State issued by Royal Decree 101/96, Royal Decree 24/75 on the Determination of Diyat and Arsh, as amended by Royal Decision 2/83, and the Law of the Practice of the Medical Profession and Dentistry issued by Royal Decree 22/96 and its amendments, and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article 1

A second paragraph is hereby added to article 2 of the mentioned Law of the Practice of the Medical Profession and Dentistry, with the following text:

It is not permitted to grant a licence to practise the profession or to renew it unless the licence applicant takes out insurance for the benefit of third parties against liability for medical malpractice in accordance with the regulation issued by a decision from the minister.

Article 2

A new article numbered 20bis is hereby added to the Law of the Practice of the Medical Profession and Dentistry with the following text:

Without prejudice to criminal and disciplinary liability, compensation for proven medical malpractice in cases of death, permanent total disability, partial disability, and wounds and injuries must be in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 24/75, as amended by Royal Decision 2/83, on the Determination of Diyat and Arsh, provided that the compensation in the event of permanent total disability must be of the same amount as compensation for death.

Article 3

The mentioned Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation Between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Government of the Republic of Seychelles is hereby ratified.

Article II

This decree must be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force on the date of its issuance.
