Royal Decree 84/2008 Promulgating the Law on Food Safety

We, Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman

after perusal of the Basic Statute of the State promulgated by Royal Decree 101/96,

Royal Decree 1/78 on the Competences of the Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,

Royal Decree 18/86 Promulgating the Dhofar Municipality Regulation,

Royal Decree 8/92 Promulgating the Muscat Municipality Law,

Royal Decree 9/97 Promulgating the Law Governing the Sohar Development Office,

the Agricultural Quarantine Law promulgated by Royal Decree 91/2000,

the Law Governing Regional Municipalities promulgated by Royal Decree 96/2000,

the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree 81/2002,

and the Veterinary Quarantine Law promulgated by Royal Decree 45/2004,

and in pursuance of public interest,

have decreed as follows

Article I

The provisions of the attached law shall apply in regard to food safety.

Article II

The Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources shall issue the necessary regulations and decisions to implement the provisions of this law after coordination with the competent bodies.

Article III

All that is contrary to this law, or in conflict with its provisions, is hereby repealed.

Article IV

This decree shall be published in the Official Gazette, and comes into force after six months from the date of its publication.
